What is it?

Shadow Worlds: Out of the Dark - Experimental Film & Dance

The Program

The Shadow Worlds program consist of three experimental stop-action films and three live dance performances. The theme of the program is struggle - be that with peer pressure, gangs, addiction, or alienation - and reconciliation of the dark and light aspects of the human spirit. These struggles also involve the concept of free will and how much control we think we may have over the choices we make.

The three films - Ephemera, The Soul Collector, and The Other Lover, were all shot with a 35mm SLR still camera shooting at 5 frames per second with the performers acting out their feelings in slow motion to simulate live action.

The dance performances are drawn from the characters in the films including Kali, the Indian goddess of darkness and death who represents both the creative and destructive elements of nature.

Total running time for the program is approximately 25-30 minutes.
